Chris Rock, who will appear in the Ricky Gervais HBO special Talking Funny later this month, has made his Broadway debut in the play “The MotherF****er With the Hat”.
According to All Headline News, Rock is an AA sponsor in the play which centers around five New Yorkers’ lust and addiction. Rock is excited to be part of this production. The Daily Caller quoted him saying “’In a weird way, this is like the acting school I never got to go to,” said Rock, “And I’m very interested in seeing how this affects the rest of my work, ‘Cause in a weird way it feels like I knew nothing. It’s like, I almost wanna buy back all my movies. It’s like, ‘I’m sorry, America! I didn’t know what I was doing.’”
However the critical reviews have come back mixed. The New York Times had positive reviews for Rock’s debut saying that it was a ‘solid Broadway debut”, however other critics were not as positive. A New York Magazine said “he’s not a natural”, making his character difficult to connect with.
The “MotherF***er With the Hat” is set to run for 15 weeks at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater in NYC.
